Remember that age old phrase- variety is the spice of life?
Well it turns out that variety is also one of the top predictors of gut health. Variety in the plants we eat that is.
A 2018 study titled American Gut: an Open Platform for Citizen Science Microbiome Research recommends to eat 30 unique plants every week. Does that sound like a lot?
It actually is easier to hit that number than it sounds!
One way to help get you there is by adding a mix of plants instead of just having one, like my omega 3 seed mix.
Instead of not adding any seeds at all to a recipe or just adding one type, you can add three! Hemp hearts, chia seeds and ground flax are all great sources of omega 3 fats which do a number of things including increasing gut bacteria diversity, but are most known for their cholesterol lowering abilities.
These seeds are also packed full of fibre which your gut bugs love to feast on!
